At Celebration Key, we are dedicated to meeting, and exceeding, rigorous environmental sustainability standards. Our approach includes:
- Minimizing our carbon footprint through energy-efficient practices.
- Reducing waste and maintaining high standards of waste management.
- Implementing a robust recycling program to divert waste from landfills.
- Managing water responsibly to protect local resources.
- Adhering to World Health Organization (WHO) public health guidelines.
- Making environmentally responsible operational decisions across all areas.
Environmental Management System
Our Environmental Management System is designed to ensure port operations have minimal environmental impact. This system strictly applies to all operations, including Food and Beverage vendors and tenants. This system includes but is not limited to the following:
Waste Management
- Environmentally sustainable collection and disposal of all waste generated by the construction and operation of the port.
- Ban on single use plastics on products where alternatives are readily available and affordable, and measures to reduce the use of the remaining plastics.
- Minimizing the use of products which will become solid waste such as aluminum and glass.
- Compost heaps generated from gardening maintenance, biosolids, and organic waste processing via advances frictional heat technology.
Public Health
- Operational guidelines for the protection of public health in Food Safety & Hygiene, Housekeeping, Potable Water, Recreational Water Facilities and Interactive Water Features, and Integrated Pest Management.
- Integration of WHO water quality guidelines with Bahamian National Standards to uphold high standards of water quality and food safety.
Wastewater
- Advanced wastewater purification system.
- Sound biosolids management for composting and fertilization of landscaping areas.
Ecosystem Biodiversity
We are committed to protecting and enhancing local ecosystems through:
- Promotion of coral reef conservation.
- Over 103 acres of mangrove ecosystem conserved.
- Waste discharge from ships strictly forbidden.
- Commitment and promotion of coastal cleanups and mangrove reforestation, whilst encouraging participation of local community along with crew members.
- Measures to preserve natural long-shore and cross-shore sand transport.
- Awareness and promotion of snorkeling, swimming, and beach etiquette.

Environmental Education and Awareness
We are committed to protecting and enhancing local ecosystems through:
- Raise awareness about conserving natural resources through learning about the port’s ecosystems.
- Provide environmental training to all operational team members, including vendors and tour operators.
- Encourage community involvement and stakeholder participation.
We are committed to developing Celebration Key sustainably and responsibly, meeting or exceeding all relevant environmental standards. To support this, we’re implementing a system to ensure consistent application and regular updates of our operational guidelines.
